Only recording half of my microphone?

reinstalled the driver for my Scarlett 2i2 (2nd gen) and now it’s only recording half of the microphone? it’s only doing this in Audacity, I could solve this by using two microphones to record a mono track, but that’s just silly. I have it set to record in mono in windows settings as well as in audacity settings, that didn’t work either. I’ve been searching the internet everywhere for an answer and didn’t find anything in here either, please help.

That should work and a e true-mono file will play out of both speakers. (1)

If you have one silent track, click the 3 dots to the left of the waveform to open the drop-down menu. Select Split Stereo To Mono. Then click the X to delete silent the silent track and you’ll be good-to-go with a true-mono track and you can save it as mono.

Or, you can simply select mono when you export but the volume will be cut in half (1).

(1) When you convert to mono or record in mono with a stereo interface, Audacity cuts the signals in half (-6dB) so you don’t go over 0dB when left and right are combined. So the level will be 6dB lower and you’ll have to Amplify after recording.

thank you for getting back to me! this has been driving me crazy. I thought it might be audacity but it’s doing the same thing in OBS so I’m almost 100% sure now that it’s the driver and not audacity. I’m gonna see if there’s any way I can copy the driver from my older laptop. I noticed the name changed when I installed the new driver, it used to say Focusrite USB (3- Focusrite USB, but now the device is called Analogue 1 + 2 (3- Focusrite US

but yeh, looks like audacity is probably not the culprit here, I’mma keep messing with different drivers or try asio4all

well, I think I figured it out, kinda? I went into windows sound settings and set the microphone to 1 channel, BUT I set audacity to record in stereo, and suddenly the other half of the sound levels appeared. I didn’t need to do that before and it still doesn’t fix the problem with OBS, but if it gets the job done we can consider this case closed I guess.
