I just got a new 4-channel sound mixer (Tascam US-600) but when I connect it to Audacity only the first 2 channels record - I’m getting no sound from inputs 3 and 4.
Can someone help me activate all 4 channels? I am sure it is a simple solution but I can’t seem to figure it out. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!
I am using Windows Home 7 Premium. I don’t have the computer in front of me right now but will check in with the second part of your question later. And once again, THANK YOU for the help. I appreciate the support and hope I can reciprocate someday.
Some multi-channel sound devices configure the channels into stereo bunches. Audacity will only record one bunch. If the system can be made to recognize all the channels, there is also the possibility you will only be able to record from 1-2 or 3-4, not all four at once. See what you can dig up.
I have a Tascam 4-channel sound mixer, but I can only get the first two channels to record in Audacity. When I go to the input dropdown, I’m only allowed to select either 1 or 2 inputs. Is there a way for me to modify/re-program Audacity to get all four channels to be recorded?
Thanks in advance for the help. I love Audacity and don’t want to be forced to use a different system.
Also see here Missing features - Audacity Support - if it’s like other Tascam devices, you may find multi-channel recording in Audacity will only work on Windows XP, unless you can persuade the XP drivers to work under Windows 7.
Yes you will almost certainly be able to record four channels simultaneously with ASIO support enabled, but this requires compiling Audacity - see Missing features - Audacity Support .
Not sure you need all that but I pasted everything just to be safe. So, with that info in consideration, is compiling ASIO the best plan of attack? Again, thank you for the help.
Are you sure that is all of it? You should have other inputs such as your built-in sound card inputs, and a listing for the actual playback device that Sound Mapper - Output is mapping to.
Do you have the correct drivers from here http://tascam.com/product/us-600/downloads/ ? You need the 32-bit drivers if you have 32-bit Windows 7 and 64-bit drivers if you have 64-bit Windows 7.
Your Tascam is listed twice for input devices - device 1 and device 6. Both have 2 input channels.
Audacity can only access one device at a time for recording, so it looks like 4 channel recording will not be available in Audacity (unless you build Audacity from the source code with ASIO support, but that’s not an easy job unless you have experience with C++ programming).
Programs that support ASIO should be able to record all 4 channels (for example, try Reaper). You can still use Audacity for editing once you have the raw recordings.
