A previous version used to do a track separating split cut. When I used the split cut I could then move a whole chunk of audio onto another track. Now Audacity copies to selected regions onto another track, but still leaves the original on track one, which I then have to delete. I want to do what I used to do. I mainly use Aud for interviews and used to use the split cut to cut out sections of unwanted conversation.
Anyone know how to get the old split effect back? Anyone else notice this? Or need a better explanation?
I’m not seeing this on 1.3.12 or 1.3.13a Mac; Split Cut works as expected - cuts the selected audio to the clipboard and splits the audio track leaving “white space” where the selection was. The only “split” command I can find that copies the audio to a new track is “Split New” which still deletes the audio from the original track.
What version of Audacity are you currently using, and what previous version were you using that behaved differently? Also, what computer and operating system are you using?
Right now using Aud 1.2.6 on Windows 7. Using a 3 year old emachines laptop.
The version I had been using was from about a year ago.
I’ll try and explain better, exampling how I used to use it - I would use the feature to separate the main track. When I was getting to audio I knew I wanted to cut, I would use one of these split cuts to create a gap in the main track. Then I’d advance to where I wanted to pick up the audio and then do another split. Following that, I would just select and junk the large cutting chunk, and line up then rejoin the pieces. I found this more efficient than cutting as it gave me more flexibility with where I wanted my audio to line up.
The old 1.2.6 version of Audacity is not suitable for Windows 7. It has several known issues that will not be fixed because the 1.2.x series is no longer maintained.
Try upgrading to 1.3.12 and see if that solves the problem.
