I am using Windows 7
Hello, I have been attempting to record some mixes using Audacity as the recording program, Virtual DJ as my DJing software, and a Numark Mixdeck as my controller. I have a RCA to 3.5mm running from the record port on my mixdeck, into my laptop’s microphone jack. I have looked and everyone says to select my ‘Numark Mixdeck Line-in’ as my recording choice. Whenever I attempt to record I receive an error message stating ‘Error while opening sound device. Please check the input device settings and the project sample rate.’ I can not for the life of me figure out how to get around this. Any help is appreciated.
I assume the mixdesk is connected to the computer with a USB cable? That’s going to be the control system and it would be most unusual for it to carry audio. On the other hand, the Mic-In of your computer doesn’t carry plain audio, either. It’s looking for a mono microphone of extremely low level.

So if you need a stereo, undistorted show and the MixDesk has a Tape-Out or something similar, then the UCA-202 may be the way to go.

I would also be surprised if the MixDesk had a Tape-Out since all the audio management is inside the computer. Line-In is the connection you would use to plug your tape player or iPod to the MixDesk.

That should “work” if you select the mic input as your recording input in Audacity. But as Koz says, don’t expect good quality since it’s not a line-level input, plus the mic input might be mono. The computer doesn’t know that you’ve plugged-in a Mix Deck to the analog mic input… Windows (and Audacity) will just assume it’s a microphone. So in the Audacity setup/configuration, you’ll have to select “mic”, not “Mix Deck”. (And make you are selecting the mic input, not your laptop’s built-in mic.)

I don’t think you can select the Mix Deck as a recording (input) device. You can only select it as an output-playback device. I took a look at the Numark Quick Start Guide online. It says you can use the Mix Deck’s USB as a “soundcard”, but it’s talking about sending digital audio from the computer to the Mix Deck. It does not say you can send digital audio from the Mix Deck into the computer over the USB connection. That’s probably why you’re getting an error when you try select use it as an audio input to the computer.
Thanks for the replies. I’m going to look into the UCA202 as it seems like the easiest way of solving it. Once I get it to work I’ll let you know.
