Noise suppression behaviour changed between 2.4.2 and 3.5.1?

I have been using 2.4.2 for a long time and just switched to 3.5.1 .
However, the “Noise suppression” doesn’t seem to work anymore, even with the same settings as I used in 2.4.2 (12/6/3).

When I have selected the noise, clicked “Get noise profile” and then select the whole file and click “Ok” (my workflow in 2.4.2), the waveform of the noise doesn’t change:

How can I use 3.5.1 to do the same as I did in 2.4.2 with noise suppression?

The settings as described in I can’t eliminate the background “white” noise, not even with the “most silent” microphone ever - #5 by Jimbo123 also don’t work anymore in 3.5.1 .
