I have never been able to access the Noise Reduction effect from the effects bar or any online tutorial, and im unsure of why/if i have to update something/im doing it wrong
What version of Audacity are you using?
What do you mean by “can’t access”? Is the Noise Reduction menu item greyed out, or do you get an error message when you select it?
i’m using version 3.7.1 i believe.
all the tutorials ive seen say to go to the effects bar on a recording, and select “Noise Reduction” from there, but it simply isn’t there
Effect → Noise Removal And Repair → Noise Reduction.
If you’re not seeing it, go to Effects → Plug-in Manager and make sure it’s there and enabled.
It’s a built-in effect so Audacity can’t be installed without it…
The effect menu is organized according to settings in the Effects panel in Preferences.
DVDdoug has used the example where the preference is
Effect menu organization: Group by category.
That is the default with a new installation of Audacity.
You could change the preference to:
Effect menu organization: Sort by effect name.
You will then get a big long menu (with no sub-menus) and it should be easy to find the Noise Reduction effect.
