I am using windows 7 with audacity 2.1. I am recording albums into the computer, but I have no sound when I am recording. However, when I do playback, it has recorded and has perfect sound. I need to hear while I am recording.
How are you doing that, in detail? Sometimes Windows will misdirect the USB service to send sound to the wrong place.
audacity 2.1.
We don’t make a 2.1 or a 2.10. It should be specifically Audacity 2.1.0.

It’s Audacity 2.1.0. I’m using ION turntable connected to the USB port of the computer. I use Audacity to record off vinyl and then transfer it to I-tunes, and then burn it on to CDs. As I am recording it from the vinyl, I cannot hear it being recorded. I am recording selected songs from the album, so it is important to know when that song has ended. I have used Audacity before and could hear it. But since I have upgraded to Windows 7, that part of the process is missing. Shouldn’t I be able to hear it?
Disconnect the turntable. Launch Audacity and see where it wants to put the sound in the playback Device Toolbar.

Connect the turntable, wait a bit and Transport > Rescan. Switch the Audacity device toolbar so it records from the turntable, but plays to where it was before.
Both settings may have moved.
Also Audacity > Edit > Preferences > Recording > [X] Playthrough should be selected.
