No sound, no wave when recording

I am using Audacity for digitalizing my old records. It worked for a while and now out of a sudden, when the tone arm touches the record and I push the recording button, then recording starts, but there are no visiable “waves” like before. I did save it as a test. mp3. And when I play it on my computer… no sound. I still have 10 double record albums to digitalize, and I don’t understand what happened. I did not change any settings, etc.

Thanks in advance for your help.

FYI: the record player I am using is a DUAL DT 210 USB. is it possible that the needle got compromized?

If it worked before, and nothing was changed, it would also work now…

New computer? New operating system (which)? Other cables? …? Tell us a bit more, please.

If the needle is bad, some sound would still be there but in bad quality.

You mention neither the operating system nor the version of Audacity.

Windows is notorious for pushing updates unbidden that reset settings and permissions.

windows11; Audacity: 3.7.7

same computer, same cables, win11, audacity 3.7.7

okay. then the needle will be okay, since there is no sound at all recorded.

just updated to 3.7.8; will try again.

Have you verified that Audacity has permission to use a sound device? Windows has this permission to prevent programs from surreptitiously recording you.

Updating to a new version of Audacity should initiate the process of requesting permission again.

Problem solved. I checked the audio setup and noticed that my usb device was not listed. so I initiated a seach, and now my USB device was listed, so that I could pick it.

Thanks for helping.
