I bet you’re waiting for us to tell you to “push this button.”
Maybe not. Unless you’re recording through a sound mixer or another external sound management device, the confirmation sound coming back out of the computer for you to listen is late. Specifically, it’s one computer late. The voice (I’m assuming you’re singing) has to go in through computer processing and then come back out through different processing.
Try it.
Audacity > Edit > Preferences > Recording > [X] Playthrough (select).
Some people luck out, but you generally can’t perform listening to that.
If you’re recording gameplay, that’s another whole basket of problems.

LOL I know things arent usually as simple as push that button. I did a little more exploring after this post, and i should have waited about five more minutes
“Fixed” my issue with the same clicks as you suggested. Yup , i can record and hear it, but as Im sure you knew, with about a 3 second delay
Yeah that’s probably not going to work
Thanks for the response
And I’m attempting to record for a local pro wrestling dvd , so no singing here lol
“Listen to this Device” should have less delay than that, but it’s still software playthrough rather than hardware playthrough. Right-click over the Speaker icon by the system clock, choose Recording Devices, right-click over the USB headset, choose Properties then on the “Listen” tab, enable “Listen to this device”. Then turn off Audacity’s Software Playthrough.
With a wired headset you might be able to get hardware playthrough by unmuting the mic on the playback side of Windows Sound. But only higher end machines have that now.
