No recording possible under Mac OS ventura 13.2.1

Hi folks,

I upgraded my Mac to Mac OS Ventura 13.2.1 a while ago and since then every time I press “record” in Audacity the program crashes and closes itself immediately. I can’t figure out why.

The signaling chain is the following:
Rode t.bone SC400 → The Mix-Mix 502-5 channel mixer → ezcap216 usb audio capture device ->usb a to usb c adapter → MacBook Pro (2019).

Maybe one of you have an idea how I can get my system running correctly again.

Thanks in advance !

Windows guy here. If Audacity crashing, I would consider uninstalling it and downloading another copy from here: Audacity ® | Downloads

  1. Can you record in Audacity from your built-in microphone ?

  2. Can you record from your setup into Quicktime ?
    Record audio in QuickTime Player on Mac - Apple Support

  3. Personally if I were using a mixer, I would use one with USB capabilities; Do you have audio coming out of your mixer ?

I already downloaded another copy of audacity. It didn’t help.

  1. Yes, with the built-in mic, it is possible to record.
  2. Haven’t tried yet.
  3. I can only use what I have, and my mixer isn’t capable of USB. that’s why I use the ezcap216 USB audio capture device. I don’t know if audio is coming out of my mixer, but it does go in tho. I can see that on the display of the mixer.

OK, well you have a few more things to try yet…

I have upgraded to ventura 13.5.2. I am able to record; Try upgrading, can’t hoit.

Can’t recall if it worked in Ventura, but I’m now on Sonoma and it works. Your best bet is to try #2 as jademan says, to isolate where in the signal chain it is failing.

Also open “Audio MIDI Setup” (you may have to search Spotlight for it) and check if the ezcap is showing up. IME it should show up almost immediately after plugging in.
