How come Audacity will not record on my Windows 8 Samsung Laptop?
Microsoft no longer supports Windows 8 as it is classed as obsolete (Support for Windows 8.1 ended in January 2023).
Audacity does not claim to support obsolete operating systems. If the current version does not work for you then there are older versions available from FossHub. If I recall correctly, Audacity 2.4.2 should work on Windows 8.
But… There are lot of things you can check.
What are you trying to record from? The laptop’s microphone? Make sure you’ve selected the correct Recording Device.
There may also be some Windows security settings preventing the microphone (or other device) from being accessed by Audacity.
