No recording device

Hello -

I have recently downloaded Audacity onto my new laptop (Dell Latitude E5520, Windows 7 Professional) having successfully used it on previous machines. I am unable to record anything because the recording devices box is empty. I’m also getting an ‘error while opening sound device’ message if I hit record.

I have tried enabling recording devices in control panel (including hidden devices) but there are none (except the option for a plug in mic).

I’d like to set up a stereo mix recording but it is not available at all.

I have two sound devices under device manager (and I have the latest drivers for each):

High Definition Audio Device
Name High Definition Audio Device
Manufacturer Microsoft

PnP Device Id HDAUDIOFUNC_01&VEN_111D&DEV_76E7&SUBSYS_1028049A&REV_10014&1559F42&0&0001

Intel(R) Display Audio
Name Intel(R) Display Audio
Manufacturer Intel(R) Corporation
Device ID HDAUDIOFUNC_01&VEN_8086&DEV_2805&SUBSYS_80860101&REV_10004&1559F42&0&0301
PnP Device Id HDAUDIOFUNC_01&VEN_8086&DEV_2805&SUBSYS_80860101&REV_10004&1559F42&0&0301

I’d really appreciate any help that anyone can offer.

Many thanks.

WF

Stereo Mix and internet recording are not guaranteed services like playing music into headphones or recording your microphone. Particularly on modern Windows machines, the guaranteed service tends to be the ability to conference into the corporate video system.

So no, if you couldn’t find it, it may not exist.
