No output from cassette player to computer usb port after two recordings

I have done only two recordings from tape to computer and saved them. They play back excellently, but now, there is no indication that there is any output from the cassette player to the USB port. The hook up has worked fine for these two recordings, but the thing appears to have flatlined. There is still audio through the earbuds, but nothing getting from the cassette player to my computer. I have checked my USB ports by plugging in a thumbdrive with music on it and it plays fine. I am disappointed in the system at this point. Anyone else have this issue? Bad cable? (It’s new – the one that came with the unit) or bad cassette player?

– Yes, try another USB cable.

– Make sure you’ve still got the USB device selected as your Recording Device? (Don’t select anything that says “loopback”).

– Try Listen To This Device to make sure Windows is getting a signal. That doesn’t require Audacity or any application.

– Check your Privacy Settings to make sure Windows isn’t blocking the USB device.

If you have a desktop/tower computer with a soundcard you can connect the headphone-output to line-in (blue) on the soundcard. (The mic input on a laptop is “not correct”.)

Or there are there are USB audio interfaces with line-inputs, such as the Behringer UCA202, or lots of higher-end interfaces and some cheaper ones. (But don’t get a regular little"USB soundcard". They are like laptops with only mic-in and headphone-out.)

…Those “cheap” USB cassette players seem to have a bad reputation. :frowning:
