no nyquist -no silence finder

HI all,
Im having some issues with audacity.
Ive purged and reinstalled 2.4.1 from the ppa -ppa:ubuntuhandbook1/audacity.
Ubuntu Studio 18.04

the nyquist plugins are missing.
so I re downloaded and copied a few .ny files

eg. /home/mark/.audacity-data/Plug-Ins/Firex.ny

but it still wont find them.(ie they don’t appear in the Manage plugins window)
I vaguely recall there was a nyquist folder in the /Analyze/folder. Cant find that anywhere now.
the Manage plugins menu has no nyquist files to enable or disable for that matter.

Specifically I was wanting to use the silence finder which im sure Ive used b4. But that was prior to many updates etc.
So not sure when why it disappeared.
Preferences/Effects/all are enabled

Ive also noticed /generate/Rhythm track is missing too

You will probably find that all Nyquist effects are missing.
This appears to be a packaging error in the ubuntuhandbook1 PPA build. I’d suggest that you report it to the PPA maintainer.

thks Steve, I now see many others having similar problems

Hi all,

I’ve installed Audacity through the command line using “sudo apt install audacity” a few days ago, using xubuntu 18.04.
Audacity 2.4.1 is installed.

Rhythm/track is missing and all the Nyquist plugins are missing as well.

I’ve read the section that describes how to install Effect, Generator and Analyser plug-ins in the online manual:
https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/installing_effect_generator_and_analyzer_plug_ins_on_linux.html

On my computer:
~/.audacity-data/plug-ins is empty
/usr/share/audacity doesn’t contain any /plug-ins folder
/usr/local/share/audacity doesn’t contains any /plug-ins folder

So I’ve tried to install the Nyquist plugins from this page:
https://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Download_Nyquist_Plug-ins

But Rhythm/track is not available here to download. It is written that it is part of Nyquist plug-ins shipped with current Audacity.
I don’t know what to do. Can you help me please?

Uninstall it,
then remove the ubuntuhandbook1 PPA from your sources,
then update the package list,
then reinstall Audacity.

You will get an older version of Audacity (2.2.1 I think), but it will work properly.

I suggest that you report the problem to the PPA maintainer. Hopefully if enough people complain he will fix it.

Thank you so much Jim!
I’ve done what you told me to do. Audacity 2.2.1 is installed and the Nyquist plugins work properly now.
I’ve send an email to the ppa maintainer.
