Macbook Pro running Mojave 10.14.6
Audacity version 2.3.3
I have used Audacity for years but only realised last week that I was running a very old version, 1.3.x. I upgraded to 2.3.3.
Now, when I load a file of any type, no cursor appears in the waveform window, and no moving cursor is visible during playback.
If I click on the waveform window, a vertical line appears, and the position of this line defines where playback begins when I activate playback. However, this line does not move during playback.
When updating from very old versions, the old “preference” setting can cause peculiar things to happen.
Try resetting Preferences.
Ensure that Audacity is completely closed (not running in the dock)
Open the folder:
~/Library/Application Support/audacity/
Note the “~” at the start. The easiest way to open this folder is to use Finder’s “Go” menu, and copy / paste the location.
3. Delete the file “audacity.cfg”
4. Launch Audacity.
You should be greeted with the “Welcome” screen.
Thanks for your reply. Deleting audacity.cfg did not fix the problem.
But I have found that if I play a file by clicking the green triangle button that is situated in the toolbar on its own, towards the right, just below the level indicator, the cursor works as expected. However, if I use the play button on the far left, which is in a group with the Record, Pause etc. buttons, or if I use the spacebar to play, the cursor does not appear. Strange!
