Newest Version keeps crashing - unable to notify support

Hello. I just upgraded to version audacity-win-3.7.5-64bit.exe, and I’m working on a project, and it has crashed at least 8 or 9 times now. I tried rebooting. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling an older version. Uninstalled that again. Rebooted, re-downloaded the new version again and re-installed, and it keeps crashing. The worst part is it “failed to send crash report”, repeatedly so you could be made aware of the problem. I even went back to the older stable version I had, and now it is also crashing.

I obviously can’t copy/paste to you each time this happens, but I hope at least one of these will give you some information….please see attached. I’m using Win 11. Thank you

If you decide to back up to an earlier version, you also have to delete or disable the Preferences and Settings folders. Audacity keeps your preferences and settings ijn a separate place so you don’t have to customize Audacity fresh every time you update it. The problem is those settings do not like to go “backwards.” In worst case, they will hold onto a failure and infect earlier Audacity versions, too.

I know how to do that on a Mac, but not Windows.

Uninstalling Audacity usually leaves the Audacity Preferences folder untouched. This is so that any custom settings you have made can be carried over to a new version when you upgrade.

On Windows, the Preference settings are in a hidden folder: Users\AppData\Roaming\audacity
(where “” is your account name when you log into Windows).

To delete the Preference settings, delete that “audacity” folder.

That was from an earlier posting. I think it’s also in the manual. Looking.

Would going back to a restore point avoid this problem? I like to save a restore point before installing software.
