newbie, How to continue recording after stop on track?

I’m sorry if this question is on the forum already. I can’t seem to find any similar problem…likely because I’m missing something obvious…

Im sure it’s an easy fix but I cannot begin to record again on the same track after I stop. I tried clicking on the track and hitting record but audacity creates a new track instead.

What am I doing wrong?

Two options:

  1. Rather than pressing Stop, press Pause, then un-pause to resume recording.
  2. To continue recording on the same track after stopping a recording, use “Append Record” (“shift+R”, or shift+Record button, or select “Append Record” from the Transport menu).
