New "Cut" behavior in 3.7.2?

Hi - New to the forum.

Win 11 24H2
Audacity 3.7.2

Just installed Audacity 3.7.2 and I am seeing new “cut” behavior.

I edit a lot of meetings between 2-3 people. To reduce the length of some of these recordings I often cut out long pauses between thoughts. I’ll often cut out the proverbial cough or sneeze, and the perennial “ums.”

After installing 3.7.2 when I cut out a “dead air” pause, the editor is cutting the stream at that point. Where I once had one long stream I now have 2. If I proceed going forward to cut out these sound bites I wind up with multiple segments and sometimes there is dead space between them forcing me to drag them together.

This was not the behavior in 3.7.1 and before. I was able to make a cut and the sound file would just roll together at the cut point. For me this is desirable.

In fact this was so troublesome that I had to uninstall 3.7.2 and go back to 3.7.1.

So is this a new “feature” or an unseen bug? If it is a new feature how do I shut it off?

Thanks in advance.

It’s a bug.

I’ve just seen a post from LWinterberg saying that they hope to release 3.7.3 “hopefully today”.

Sounds great. I went back to 3.7.1 and all was well and was able to edit the discussions I deal with, so no big deal for me. When i saw that it was, “Wait a minute…”.

Thanks fo rthe response.

Yeah, I noticed the same thing after updating to 3.7.2. It seems like the cut tool now splits the clip instead of just trimming and shifting everything left like it used to. Pretty annoying for fast-paced editing. I also rolled back to 3.7.1. Hoping it’s a bug, not a feature.

It turned out to be a bug and it was fixed with 3.7.3. So you can jump to 3.7.3 if you so choose.
