My mic seems to not connect with my system - I speak but there is no sound in audacit. I am lost as to where I should ´go to in the settings. Thank you for your help.
What mic? The one built into your laptop? A USB mic? Analog?
Are you on Windows?
For analog computer mics there are two different incompatible connector types. Most newer laptops have a combo-connector for both the mic and headphones and some have separate connectors.
Thank you DVDdoug.
USB Rode Mic plugged into Focusrite. And on Windows 10. I am really lost ![]()
USB Rode Mic plugged into Focusrite.
Hmmm… The Focusrite is for analog mics. A USB mic has to connect directly to the computer. (But some mics can work both ways.)
If you have an analog connection make sure phantom power is turned-on on the Focusrite. I believe all Rode mics are condensers and condenser mics need power.
Is the Focusrite (or USB mic) showing-up as a Recording Device in Audacity, and have you selected it?
Audacity’s recording volume slider is “hidden” under the recording meters. That slider may, or may not, have any effect with a digital input but make sure it’s turned-up.
Check your Windows Permissions/Privacy Settings to make sure Audacity is allowed to use the device.
While you’re at it, make sure Windows “Enhancements” are turned OFF. They won’t usually kill the audio completely but they can foul it up in strange ways.
You can also try Listen To This Device to make sure Windows is getting a signal.
And there might be a Focusrite utility “in-between” the device and Audacity.
Hi there: Thank you again, The mic is connected to the Focusrite. I am a bit overwhelmed ![]()
