My audacity recordings have dropped sound

I have a hp envy. I use audacity to record my dj sets. In the past my recordings were perfect. Since hp had me do a hard reset there is audio dropping from the recording. Ironically when I use butt to do my live streaming show there is not audio drop. Why is there audio drops in my recording with Audacity?

Buffer underflow is a problem for any real-time process running in a multitasking environment. I would be curious to know if it still happens while the Audacity process is set to Realtime.

Is the DJ setup hardware, separate from the computer? Things tend to be easier the less the computer is doing.

If something interrupts and “hogs” the system for too long, you’ll get dropouts. (Buffer overflow when recording or buffer underflow when playing back or monitoring.)

So try to minimize the number of background operations, and if possible, don’t run any other applications while recording.

You can also try increasing the buffer length in Edit → Preferences → Audio Settings.

This can be a “big topic”. There is a FREE online book about optimizing your computer for audio called Glitch Free.

How do I fix. I’ve stopped all other apps to make sure the processor isn’t overworked

How do I change the buffer length, from what to what?

Like I said, it’s under Audio Settings. (Or you access the same dialog box from the menu bar it under Audio Setup.)

It’s the 2nd to the last option in Edit → Preferences → Audio Settings. It says -
Latency
Buffer Length:

…You don’t have to worry about latency compensation. That’s for keeping a backing-track in sync with a new track. (A buffer is also a delay = latency.)
