Just installed Audiocity on advice from radio station as they want me to delete references in a broadcast from yesterday. Downloaded broadcast and tried to import (MP3) but get message “MP3 Decoding Failed: Lost synchronisation” I can play the recording on Windows media player without problem and I’ve tried both re-downloading the MP3 file and re-installing Audiocity.
The current version of Audacity requires that MP3 files strictly comply with the MP3 standard. It has been discovered since Audacity 2.4.2 was released that many MP3 files do not comply strictly with the standard and so will not load. The next Audacity release will be more forgiving.
The best workaround for now is to use another app to convert the MP3 to WAV, and then import the WAV. If you don’t already have an MP3 to WAV converter, I’d recommend Foobar2000 (it’s free and it is also an excellent, lightweight audio player). You can get it here: https://www.foobar2000.org/
