Move Forward or Backward in Time in Main WIndow

Newbie question: Sorry, I don’t know the correct to ask this question–I’ll try to make myself understood.

I opened a project with an existing recording. I’m looking at the main window somewhere in the middle of the track. Let’s say the time period that appears in the window is 2 minutes through 3 minutes.

How can I look at the previous time period (1 minute through 2 minutes)? Or the following time period (3 minutes through 4 minutes)? In other words, I want to scan backward or forward.

I know I can zoom way out, then pick the point I want to look at, then zoom back in–but there must be an easier way to have the window examine the track at the previous time period or the next time period.

Sorry if my question is unclear–I don’t know the proper terminology. Thank you!

Scroll bar at the bottom of the screen … https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/scrollbars.html#horizontal

I found the horizontal scroll bar. That’s exactly what I was looking for.

Like many things, it’s easy when you know how. Thank you!!

On my computer, I can scroll left and right a “screenful” at a time using the Page Up and Page Down keys, but I may have reassigned some functions to those keys.

Very cool, that works on my computer too. One “screenful” at a time is actually easier to use than the horizontal scroll bar. Thank you!

“Fn” + “pg” keys for me, (on Dell-Windows).
