MMB or RMB drag should drag/scroll left and right

I think it should be possible for me to pan around inside the timeline by using RMB or MMB and drag, both of which currently do nothing as far as I can tell.

Best not to use abbreviations like RMB and MMB. Some users may not know what you mean.

Gale

MMB = middle mouse button
RMB = right mouse button

Are you all aware that you can scroll with “Shift + Mouse Wheel”. (Mouse wheel on it’s own to scroll vertically if you have multiple tracks).

Also you “pan around inside the timeline” by left clicking on the horizontal scroll bar and dragging the scroll bar. (Use the vertical scroll bar for scrolling vertically if you have multiple tracks).

Yeah, and that’s not what is being asked for in the topic.

Why can’t you pan around by dragging with MMB? Feels like I have one hand tied behind my back having to scroll instead of just moving the view.

I’m migrating to audacity from another software and absence of MMB-panning feels like a torture.

You must Ctrl-Scroll to zoom out, then Shift-scroll and Ctrl-Scroll to zoom in again. With no zoom-in and -out steps you will shift-scroll like crazy to get where you need.

And no, scroll bar is another vertical move that you dont want to make every 10 seconds, constantly moving out from working spot.

You should be able just pan with middle click! It feels natural. Especially when MMB is not even used for anything else.

middle mouse button dragging has been implemented in 3.7.7.
