Missing file on download

The procedure entry point _callnewh could not be found in the dynamic link library.

How can I fix this?

Also, I’m not sure if there’s missing other files either.

You need to update Microsoft Visual C++ redistributable. You can get it from Microsoft here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2977003/the-latest-supported-visual-c-downloads
You need the “x86: vc_redist.x86.exe” version (because Audacity is a 32-bit app).

Also, ensure that you have the current version of Audacity from here: https://www.audacityteam.org/download/windows/

Hi Steve.

Thanks for this very much.

Would downloading this likely add all the remaining missing files (or whatever they’re called) that aren’t currently on my laptop?

It will update the Microsoft Visual C++ redistributable. I don’t know what else, if anything, is missing from your laptop.

You should probably start thinking about replacing your operating system soon. Mainstream support for Windows 8.1 ended in 2018. (See: Search Product and Services Lifecycle Information - Microsoft Lifecycle | Microsoft Learn)

If you don’t want to update to Windows 10, or if your computer cannot run Windows 10, then you could consider replacing Windows with Linux (Xubuntu Linux is a good choice for older computers)

Hi Steve.

Sorry for the late response.

I use Google Chrome not Linux. No idea if that’s the same but it seems to be working for me.

In other news, the Redistributable package I downloaded from your suggestion hasn’t fixed the problem, the same error message I originally said has popped up again.

I’m not sure if this will give you any more information but I had to factory reset my laptop, before I did this, I managed to use Audacity on it with no issues whatsoever. Am not fully clued up on computers so I thought I’d give you that information to see if I need to add anything else. I’m really not sure what’s going on.

Thank you for your time and I hope all is well.

Andy

Your profile says that you are using Windows 8 / 8.1.

The error message that you reported is a Windows error message.

“Google Chrome” is a web browser. Do you mean “Google Chrome OS”? If so, how did you get Audacity to run (Audacity does not support Chrome OS).
