Audacity Beta does not appear to want to open midi files.
As MIDI is poorly supported in Audacity 3, it won’t be ported to Audacity 4. However, Audacity 5 is aiming to get full MIDI support.
For MIDI (import / export / playback) support in Audacity, you need to go back to a late Audacity 2.x version.
