Microphone Auto-Gain Adjust?

I’m having a problem with recording some songs. I’m a singer and whenever I hold or sustain a note the microphone seems to auto adjust the gain and turn it way down. If I apply vibrato it comes back.

I tried adjusting the microphone setting on my computer by un-checking the box “allow applications to take exclusive control of this device”. But it didn’t fix it.

I can’t seem to find anyone else with this problem. Any and all help would be appreciated.

I am running Windows 8 and Audacity 2.0.6
My sound board is a Xenyx502

Thank you

Make sure all Windows Enhancements are turned-off.

Audacity just “captures” the digital audio stream, so it won’t change anything during recording… But sometimes Windows does…

Windows Enhanced Services naturally assumes that any sustained tones or sounds are noise and tries to cancel them out. When it’s working right, it lets you talk in a noisy room. It hates music.
