Mic volume fades in when recording

I have a logitec headset that I use for voice recording. Every time I start a recording, the volume begins very low and gradually gets louder. It takes a couple seconds to get to the right volume. This happens every time I start a new recording. Any ideas on how to fix this?

What version of Audacity? Please see the pink panel at the top of the page.

What is the model number of the headset and does it have a USB connection or pink and green connectors?

Try Why do my recordings fade out or sound as if they were made in a tunnel? - even though you have the opposite problem. It could be an effect setting applied by your sound card.

I am using Audacity 2.1.0. Logitech headset H540. It’s connected through USB cable… I will look at the link you sent - see if it can solve my problems. Thanks!

I did go through the link that you sent - I looked at the setting on the headset, there was nothing about effects that I could find. I also looked at Audacity recording preferences, and don’t see anything about effects there either…

It’s less likely to be an enhancement setting given it’s a USB headset. Do the blue waves start out less tall? If not, then it is a playback problem and you should look at your sound card playback effects.

If the waves start less tall, make sure the headset is connected to an empty USB port. Don’t connect it to a USB hub connected to the USB port.

Also you could update Audacity in any case - the current version is 2.1.3: http://www.audacityteam.org/download/windows.

Thanks. I did install the latest version, and moved the USB to a different port just to be sure (it is plugged directly into my computer). I still have the same behavior. The blue lines are definitely shorter in the beginning. Attached is a picture of what it looks like… I kept saying the same phrase over.

You could try a different host in Audacity’s Device Toolbar.

If you have Skype running, shut it down, because it can interfere with recording and playback for other purposes.

Other than that, with the mic as default Windows recording device, try recording in Windows Sound Recorder. If the behaviour is the same, I think you should contact Logitech support.
