Menu bar

hello

when i load Audacity 2.0.5
it appear like without the top band [ see snapshot ]
only when i click the menus new does it come correctly .
i did try to re- install all the same .

do you have any light

thanks

Do you mean “window size”?

Note that if you File > Close, Audacity reduces to a mimimal menu. You have to use File > New, Open… or Open Recent.

You did not attach a screenshot. Please see here for how to attach files: https://forum.audacityteam.org/t/how-to-attach-files-to-forum-posts/24026/1 .

Installation does not change anything unless you initialise the audacity.cfg settings file. To do this, quit Audacity, open Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder and type:

~/Library/Application Support/audacity/

Open audacity.cfg if it exists. Select all the text and delete it. Then type the following at the top of the file:

NewPrefsInitialized=1

Save audacity.cfg and restart Audacity.

If you want to use Mac you must accept that an application’s menu bar is not part of the application.

There is a single system-wide menu bar that contains the menu for the application that currently has focus.

So if you create a second window for an application, the second window will not have an attached menu bar. If you only have one application window and drag it downwards or resize it, you will again see that the system menu bar is not attached to the application.

If the problem is something else then yes you should initialise audacity.cfg. Initialising audacity.cfg will not make the Mac’s menu bar attach to the Audacity application.

Initialising audacity.cfg might solve a problem such as Audacity launching underneath the Mac’s menu bar, so that you cannot access the Audacity window buttons.

hello

ok so if i understand correctly i do have to reset audacity .cfg

schould i delete all the text except " NewPrefsInitialized=1 " close and re-start
or erase all and re-write " NewPrefsInitialized=1 " close and re-start

thanks to let me know

Perhaps. I do not understand the exact problem that you are complaining about.

It is safer to delete all the text then write

NewPrefsInitialized=1

at the top. Then save audacity.cfg and restart Audacity.

Gale

Audacity > Quit Audacity if it is running, then delete the “audacity.cfg” file.

Extract audacity.cfg from the attached zip by downloading the zip then double-clicking on it.

Copy the extracted audacity.cfg then paste it in to Macintosh HD/Users//Library/Application Support/audacity/ so that it replaces the “audacity.cfg” you deleted.

All you need to do is copy and paste audacity.cfg, not double-click on it.

If you don’t need Kontakt to open files with .CFG extension, you can make TextEdit open .CFG files instead.

To do that, right-click or control-click over audacity.cfg and choose “Open with”, then “Other…”.

In the window that opens, put a tick mark in the “Always Open With” box, select “TextEdit.app” then click “Open”. Now, audacity.cfg and other .CFG files should open with TextEdit and not Kontakt.

If you need to open a .CFG file with Kontakt, you can still do so by right-click or control-click over the file then choose Kontakt from the list.
