Maximizing render performance

hey guys, new here so apologies if this is in the wrong place or has been covered before. I tried the site search function but didn’t find anything of use.

2.0.6, windows 7, and I have it installed / not a portable copy

I have a pretty beefy computer I built a few years back for AV applications, editing, gaming and the like. Most other apps have no problem taking full advantage of the CPU for effects rendering. Audacity though uses mayyybe 25% CPU time on a good day. I don’t think it’s a threading limitation because it’s spread across the cores evenly. It’s annoying that a simple EQ or reverb takes 10 seconds or so to render. So my workflow stops, I wait, and then it’s finally done. Disk %active time isn’t maxed out, it bounces around 15%.

So what’s the catch? Is the engine limited to 1 core’s worth of time but some other code allows it to be distributed across the cores? I really want audacity to run faster and take advantage of my system resources. Is there a setting somewhere I’m missing?

No you are not missing a setting in Audacity.

Does increasing the Audacity priority make any difference?
