massive distortion recording from DJM 900 nexus

so i recorded a mix from DJM 900 nexus mixer onto audacity the first hour recorded perfectly then the second hour was a mass of distortion with none of the music recognisable
no settings were changed during the mix and this is the second time this has happened. anybody know why?
also is there a way to recover the part of the mix that is distorted?
thanks

is there a way to recover the part of the mix that is distorted?

Probably not. If it’s almost unrecognizable then it was recorded wrong.

How did you connect the mixer to the computer? Go crazy. List part numbers, connector labels, types of wires, etc. We have to build your system in our imagination to figure out what went wrong.

Connected by a usb cable from the djm 900 nexus mixer into my MacBook Air. I tried to record a few more times to do this I had to unplug the usb then Reconnect. Each time it recorded fine for a period of time before mass distortion occurred again.

Do you have the latest version of El Capitan from Apple Store? USB support had many problems in early El Capitan.

Are there any special Mac drivers or firmware you should have from Pioneer Support? I can’t tell you because that page is not responding for me at the moment.

latest version of El Capitan from Apple Store?

I got a new version in a download last night. I’m now at OS-X 10.11.5.

Yes. You must install both the Mac firmware and the specific El Capitan drivers from http://www.pioneerdj.com/en/support/software/djm-900nxs/. They are clear that the 900 nxs will not work on OS X 10.11.0 - you must have at least 10.11.1.
