Managing Focusrite Scarlett Plug-ins

I recently had trouble getting my Focusrite Scarlett Plug-in license to install. Every time I tried to install the license I would get the following message:

Focusrite Scarlett Plug-in Suite Activation
Problem installing license file.

I found that you had to have the latest version of the plug-in for the license to install. So I downloaded the latest version of the plug-in and tried to install the license again. I still received the failure. I contacted Focusrite and this is how we finally go the the license to install.

Voodoobones: > Maybe if I completely uninstalled the plug-in and reinstalled it. Unfortunately I don’t know how to uninstall a plugin from a Mac.
Jordan: > You should just trash the plugins. I actually have paths for everything that I will copy into here, and just delete all of them
Voodoobones: > I wonder if there is a file that didn’t update when I installed the latest plugin. I originally had 1.0 on the CD.
Jordan: > it’s possible. just do a clean install. delete these 2 paths:
Jordan: > Mac HD/Library/Audio/Plugins/VST/Focusrite (All Scarlett files)
Jordan: > Mac HD/Library/Audio/Plugins/Components/Scarlett Plug-in Suite.component
Voodoobones: > Ok. Now for my dumb question. How do I get to the path? I am fairly new to Mac so the only thing I am familiar with is Finder.
Jordan: > It’s no problem! Open a new finder window, and copy each path one at a time into the search, then trash what you find.
Voodoobones: > Ok. I have nothing after HD/. the only thing I have in HD/
Jordan: > Ok. Open a new finder window, and instead of typing everything, manually click on everything. in the order the path says. just like following a recipe >
Voodoobones: > Ah! Found them!
Voodoobones: > I have FFScarlettSuite.componet and Scarlett Plug-in Suite.Componenet. Delete them both?
Jordan: > Yes indeed
Voodoobones: > Done.
Voodoobones: > Now reinstall the plugin, correct?
Jordan: > Yes. then go through the activation process again, and I think everything should be working fine

Thanks to Jordan at Focusrite my plug-ins work. The only thing I need to figure out now is how to clean up the list of effects that I have in Audacity. Since I reinstalled the plug-in I now have duplicate entries and only one of the entries work. So you have to remember which one to click on. As soon as I figure that out I will update this.
Hope this helps,
Jim

Thanks, Jim. Audacity scans at each launch for Audio Units in the following locations:

~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components
/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components

So for Audio Units you’ll need to clear the non-working duplicates out of those folders.

For VST’s, choose Audacity > Preferences, click Effects on the left, then choose the option to rescan VST’s and restart Audacity.

If there are still non-working duplicates you’ll need to clean out

~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST
/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST

The tilde ~ means your home directory.

Thank you Gale. Good info.
