"Make Stereo Track" warns of mismatching clips when realtime effects are used

Using Windows 10, Audacity 3.7.5.

When trying to merge identical mono tracks, using identical realtime effects, audacity warns that the tracks will be rendered and any realtime effects will be applied to the waveform.

Steps to reproduce:

  • Generate a sine wave tone
  • Add any realtime effect(s) to the track
  • Duplicate the track
  • Select both tracks and use the “Make Stereo Track” option

Expected behaviour: Audacity should combine the two tracks, keeping the same realtime effects and automations

Actual behaviour: Audacity warns that the realtime effects will be applied to the waveform because “The tracks you are attempting to merge to stereo contain clips at different positions, or otherwise mismatching clips,” despite the clips being identical and having identical realtime effects.

I want to convert a mono audio track to stereo as a workaround for this github issue, but that will mean my realtime effects and automations will get flattened.

Thanks for any help!
