Magnifier Zoom Tool Gone. Why?

I’m stuck using Audacity 313 because this was the last version that had the independent magnifier zoom tool, allowing click and drag custom zooming in the wav form window, or the vertical decibel window along the left side of the wav form. This is a vital tool I use every time I use Audacity, so when I “upgraded” a while back to find this tool missing, I was unhappy to put it mildly. Now, after v313, you can only click the magnifier icon in the tool bar for preselected magnifications of the wav form, and to zoom into the decibel window, you must left click and select zoom, also with preselected steps of magnification… extra steps that do not give the user what they need.

Can we please bring back the independent magnification tool for custom zoom control?

Also, why was the “export selected audio” removed from the export options?

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

It is not gone.

Audacity v3.6.4: File → Export Audio, in the dialog select “Current Selection”

If you scroll while holding ctrl, it’ll zoom

If you want more granular zooming, you can do it with keyboard shortcuts in the program. I don’t remember what keys they originally are. I changed them to Ctrl﹢- for zoom out and Ctrl﹢+ for zoom in so they would behave like my browser windows.

I’m on a Macbook. Thanks for the suggestion but that doesn’t work, and looking at the zoom keyboard shortcut settings, I can’t see where that setting can be changed. And shortcut settings do not accept scrolling, only keys.

The default zoom keys are just the plus and minus keys by themselves, but this only offers zooming in steps instead of custom zooming by clicking and dragging the curser, with the old magnifier tool. Thank you.

On mac its cmd+scroll
