Another note or two here. Are you using the Audacity Project Cloud Storage from audio.com - Muse Hub? Does Audacity still work OK if you lose your network connection (other than audio.com)?
Mine is Apple (up left) > System Preferences > Network. Note where the settings are and change it so all the balls are red.—no network connection. Is your microphone still OK and does Audacity record things?

I never use network storage. Mic does work without network connectivity. My uninformed hypothesis is that the Privacy & Security settings didn’t like the new version of Audacity until I wiped it and reinstalled it.
