AUDIO BOX usb96
You can make Overdubbing Latency vanish by plugging your wired headphones into the AudioBox. It’s designed to do this from the headphone connection in the back. You may need size adapters depending on your headphones.
You can’t listen to the computer for overdubbing, That pathway will always have Machine Latency echo which is fixed.
This can be a problem for wireless headphones because I don’t think there’s any way to make those work with the AudioBox.
The latency setting inside Audacity Preferences sets the sync between the backing and new performance tracks. If you set that one right, the new track will line up beat perfect with the backing track.
Did I hit it?
It is possible to listen to the computer and have really tiny headphone latencies by recompiling the Audacity program with ASIO support. Ever compile a computer program? Audacity can’t be provided with internal ASIO because of licensing problems.
