I recently installed Audacity 2.1.2 on a imac OS X 10.10 and below are the issues I have encountered:
Previous versions would allow me drag and drop a sound file to Audacity, I tried in the 2.1.2 version and did not work.
I tried to use Effects > Low Pass Filter or High Pass Filter, but did not work.
After tried to use Low or High Pass Filter the program does not allow me to click in anything else, it does not crashes but all the functions in the drop down menu are in light gray color, which indicate that I cannot select them anymore. In order to continue to use the program I have to close and open the Audacity again.
Is this a bug of the new version or is something related to my local system? Any help is appreciated.
Thank you, but this is already noted in the 2.1.2 Release Notes. You can drag most file types to the Audacity icon in /Applications or in the Dock, or import the file from within Audacity.
Please describe exactly what happens. If there is an error message before or after the effect appears, what does the message say?
What language is Audacity set to at Audacity > Preferences… > Interface, and what language is the Mac system language?
Otherwise after using an effect normally you should be able to use the menus as long as playback is stopped.
If your problems above are permanent, I suggest quitting Audacity. Then open Finder, use Go > Go to Folder and type:
~/Library/Application Support/
In that “Application Support” folder, delete the “audacity” folder. This will reset all Audacity settings and effect settings and require you to use Effect > Add / Remove Plug-ins… to enable any plugins that don’t ship with Audacity, but it sounds to me that you should try that.
I’ll still post this, as it might contain something…
I’m on Mavericks. But 2.1.2 doesn’t allow me to drag and drop any audio file either. Could be related to a recent security update in OSX.
I also can’t open Audacity 2.1.1 simultaneously either. I seem to remember this was a portable install, but I’m not 100% certain.
I tried to use Effects > Low Pass Filter or High Pass Filter, but did not work.
Confirmed. Error: Effect failed to initialize. Log:

The log shows Audacity is looking in the wrong spot. The previous version of Audacity I have deleted. Strange, but the finder took me to a map inside Audacity 2.1.1’s folder.
Quit Audacity 2.1.2. Deleted Audacity.cfg from
~/Library/Application support/Audacity/
Relaunched Audacity 2.1.2
Result: no playback. Just a click when starting and when stopping playback with internal audio. No other interface atm.
Checked System preferences. Clicks too, until I clicked around a bit. System sounds played on second try.
Opened Audio/midi setup. Switched output from 24 to 16 bits.
Result: Audacity playback is working again. Still no drag and drop. Effects worked again too.
After tried to use Low or High Pass Filter the program does not allow me to click in anything else, it does not crashes but all the functions in the drop down menu are in light gray color, which indicate that I cannot select them anymore. In order to continue to use the program I have to close and open the Audacity again.
Not tested.
Apparantly, you have an old Audacity.cfg on your Mac. Check:
~/Library/Application support/Audacity/
Quit Audacity, if it’s running.
Use “Go to folder” under “Go” menu in Finder. Paste path above and hit return. Delete Audacity.cfg
Relaunch Audacity and test.
Yes. But none worked before I deleted the cfg file.
I have since deleted the 2.1.0 and 2.1.1 that were present in /Applications.
I think one of those wasn’t a portable install. My memory is fading I’m afraid
I also need to clean up plugins as I’ve been experimenting with VST’s in another app. And some of these probably don’t work with Audacity, but it’s a tedious job to test them and I haven’t found the time yet.
Hi,
I deleted the folder ~/Library/Application Support/audacity and Effects > High Pass Filter is now working! Still cannot drag and drop an audio file though…
