Local Held Manual not recognized

Using Audacity 2.4.2. This is my path: c://…appdata/roaming/audacity/help/manual which contains /m, /man, /manual, favicon.ico, index.html, and quick_help.html.
Clicking Help → Manual bring up the following error message: “The Manual does not appear to be installed. Please view the Manual online or download the Manual.” After reading other entries for this problem, I believe I have the right file and folder arrangement but it is not working.

My manual is found at C:/ProgramFiles(x86)/audacity/help/manual

I assume that’s the default location because that’s where it was installed automatically when I installed Audacity.

C:/ProgramFiles(x86) was probably the default location on your computer when Audacity was installed. On my computer, the default is different. Since the installer was allowed to chose its default path, I’m not sure that a re-installation to a contrived location would solve the problem. Currently, all components seem to be in the right location relative to the Audacity folder so, if the shortcut knows where to find Audacity, Audacity should know where to find the help folder, yes? I was hoping this issue would be old hat and a resolution would be easy. If not, I can always change the setting to use the online manual. Thanks anyway.

Very easy fix.

  1. Remove your current version of Audacity + manual from wherever you have installed them.
  2. Download the recommended Audacity 2.4.2 installer (includes user manual) Audacity ® | Download for Windows
  3. Run the installer and install to the default location. During the installation, enable the option to “Reset Preferences”.
