Audacity 2.1.3 .exe
Windows 10
I would like to use Lame and have not been successful.
I have downloaded it per instructions and when I try to open it all I get is a quick flash on the screen.
All trouble shooting suggestions have been tried with zero results.
Obviously I’m doing something wrong but what is it?
Dave
Why are you installing Lame?
Are you getting it from here (scroll down)?

Will it let you install FFMpeg? They have different jobs, but installing both is harmless. I’m wondering if either worked.

So that I can make mp3. Should I not be doing this?
No I didn’t use that link. I used the one Audacity suggested. I’ll give it a try.
Dave
Should I not be doing this?
You should. And we expect it to work. It’s also a terrific idea to get Audacity from that link, too. Because it’s open source, there are a lot of Audacity offerings and some work better than others.

As a (temporary?) work-around you can export to WAV or FLAC and use a 3rd-party MP3 encoder. I’ve been using TAudioConverter if I just need to make MP3s without any editing. Once its configured for MP3 and your preferred settings, it’s just drag, drop, and click, and you can encode a batch of MP3s at once.
In the past I’ve used LameDrop, or there are other free MP3 encoders.
I have downloaded it per instructions and when I try to open it all I get is a quick flash on the screen.
What do you mean “open”? Does that happen when you try to install LAME by double-clicking Lame_v3.99.3_for_Windows.exe ?
