LAME

I have read instructions to download LAME to export mp3 format. I have tried both the direct (dmg) install and the zip. THe unzipped elements are in a folder I created on my desktop. I do not see the exact filenames requested in Preferences. Here’s what I get from LAME:

Last login: Fri Dec 9 19:19:29 on console
John-Rogers-MacBook-Pro-3:~ johnrogers$ /Users/johnrogers/Desktop/LAME/Lame_Library_v3.98.2_for_Audacity_on_OSX(1)/libmp3lame.dylib ; exit;
-bash: /Users/johnrogers/Desktop/LAME/Lame_Library_v3.98.2_for_Audacity_on_OSX(1)/libmp3lame.dylib: cannot execute binary file
logout

[Process completed]

Forget the DMG of LAME. Please double-check you followed the instructions here: http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/faq_installation_and_plug_ins.html#maclame_zip. Do you see LAME 3.98.2 displayed in Libraries Preferences? If not, what does it say?

You can make it even simpler. Once you have extracted libmp3lame.dylib, just put it in the folder where you installed Audacity then you should be able to export MP3 without browsing from Libraries Preferences.

If you still have problems after that, please restart Audacity then attach the log file from Help > Show Log… . Please see here for how to attach files: https://forum.audacityteam.org/t/how-to-attach-files-to-forum-posts/24026/1

Gale,

Thanks for your quick and clear reply. I was over-complicating the process. When I dragged the file into the Audacity folder from where I had cleverly hidden it — voila!

Just a side note: I have used a couple of other DAWs, but selected this for its simplicity (I’m just recording one or two tracks for a podcast). THe value of having a responsive forum is critical and differentiates a good software from a bad one … more, perhaps, than the features. Now, as a result of your help, I’ll donate.
