Keyboard Shortcuts stop working MX 23.6

Versions 3.7.1 and 3.7.3 installed through MXPI - Testing tab to upgrade Audacity from Debian Stable to Debian Testing.
Only a few steps into an edit, the most basic elements of system-wide keyboard shortcuts like Ctrl+a, Ctrl+z, Ctrl+r and the Delete key stop working. They do work once in a while as I progress through an edit, but I have no way of identifying a trigger for it. This is the most frustrating thing ever making even the simplest edit turn into a horrific experience reminiscent of very early 90s MAC use where the mouse was king and time wasting wrist wrenching was the rule of the day.

Have tested on 4 very different machines and when booted Live, all produce the same result with varying lengths of time from go to no. I just can not find any trigger that is causing it.

I run Debian Testing XFCE, and have recently started encountering a similar issue. Some of my keyboard shortcuts will randomly stop working. If I go into Preferences and reset them, they will work again… for a while.

Between this and one other issue that I’ve already reported (and have gotten no help on), these last few versions of Audacity have been a bit of a dumpster fire.

At this point, I’m seriously considering setting up a separate media machine with last known good versions of all the software I use… and never updating it.

Experiencing the same keyboard input drops here. Has this been reported as a bug yet?

Archlinux, kernel 6.12.37-1-lts, audacity 1:3.7.4-2

If you are using a packaged version of Audacity, it might be worth trying the AppImage version to see if that exhibits the same problem.

No different with the latest 3.7.4 Appimage, just 2 steps into a simple edit and the most basis commonly used keyboard shortcuts were lost. One example, doing a noise removal through the menus, I could get one repeat with the Ctrl + r but not a third. The Ctrl + A,Z,C,V, Ctrl+Shift+Z, Home, End, Delete, keys are just not working consistently and still no known trigger action. Version 3.4.2 (Debian packaged) works, but it’s too old to use for what I need it to do.

I use 3.7.4 AppImage on Mint and I have not been troubled by this issue. I would suggest also asking folks on the MX forum too in case people flagged it there but not here. If I have time I will try installing MX in a virtual machine to try and recreate the issue.

Thanks for the offer to test, I appreciate it. I use MX Xfce 64-bit with AHS. I posted the issue on the MX forums first on the 7th June to avoid having to bring it there without doing my research first, no responses whatsoever. I guess the regulars there just don’t use Audacity.

Thanks for that. I will make sure to use the same flavour

That must be rather frustrating. :worried:

Update: I installed MX Linux 23.6 in Virtualbox and tried to recreate your problem. I wasn’t able to, I’m afraid. Dunno what else to suggest at this point in time.
