keyboard shortcut to insert silence

I insert a lot of slience spaces in editing and find the constant mouse move between the top menu and the track quite tiring.

When I searched for a keyboard shortcut for inserting silence ( that would open the silence timing box), I found an old thread on this forum dated June 2012 in which you advise that such a shortcut will be available in 2.0.1.

Stil, even in the current manual I can’t find anywhere that shortcut. The section on inserting silence refers to the top menu - Generate> Silence.

Could you please advise what is the keyboard shortcut for inserting silence.

thank you

By default there isn’t one, but in Audacity 2.3.0 you can set one in keyboard preferences (https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/keyboard_preferences.html)
The command is just called “Silence”.

If you’ve not got Audacity 2.3.0, you can get it via the Audacity website: https://www.audacityteam.org/download/windows/

Yes I have 2.3.0

magic…thank you!

If the inserted silences are of the same length,
copy some silence, using “Ctrl+C”(once), and (repeatedly) paste it in using “Ctrl+V”.

they are of different lenghts and yes, I often use the cut, copy and paste function for managing silence, thanks
