Join clip changes audio after the clip? Bug?

The first time this happened, I was too new to figure out that it was not something that I may have done myself somehow… Since then, I’ve watched and now I’ve seen it happen again! I’m on Windows 10, Audacity Version 3.7.1
Here is what I did prior to noticing the bug:
I am editing the aup3 file of my own voice that I previously created. I am removing breath sounds by silencing them… I get to a point where I want to insert a clip from a second AUP3 file that I recorded yesterday. Both clips are still in what I consider “raw” format. Other than deleting some breath sounds, I have not applied any effects to either one. I select the audio clip from AUP3 file 2 and copy it. I split my AUP3 File 1 and move the tail so that I have enough space to insert the Audio that I copied. I paste the the Audio from File2 I paste “Selected Audio Only” (instead of a Smart Clip) and paste it in. So far, so good. Up until this point everything has been working as I would expect.
The trouble comes when I attempt to join the end of the Pasted Clip to the Tail end of my Original AUP3 audio. As soon as I JOIN it, I can visually see that it has REDUCED the audio on the tail end of my original file. I UNDO the JOIN, and the audio goes back to what it was before the JOIN. I REDO the JOIN and the bug happens again.
I THINK I can figure out work-arounds for this. But I wanted to report this bug.

Are both clips mono? Also, is the DC offset the same on both clips?

Both clips are mono but with 2 Tracks. Each was recorded with the same exact hardware and same exact software. As I am visually comparing both of them now with a lot of Zoom, I see no difference in DC offset. I know that the breath sounds I have been deleting (and still have some to delete) are symmetrical around the center line. Please let me know if there is some other way I should be checking DC offset as I am still fairly new at Audacity. I have not yet Normalized either file.

My solution is to change my procedures. I no longer join clips from different AUP3 files onto my working AUP3 file. I wait until I have finished editing my original file and exported it to MP3 (which is my final output). I also make the outside clips that I want to add into MP3s. Then I import all my MP3s into Audacity. When I join them at that stage I have not seen the problem.
