Hi. I am confused. I hav deleted my older version of Audacity and am about to download the newest. But then, in stage 2 , the Audio Com appears and it seems that I have to follow their Sky offer and pay for it! There is no option not to comply. I don’t want any “cloud” storage. So how do I download the Audacity clean and pure?
Audacity is still free. You do not need to use any other of their services.
Download the Audacity version “without Muse Hub” (small text link below the big download button).
Since I never downloaded the version “with Muse Hub”, I cannot tell you how to avoid their cloud service.
I have tried that option, but the Audio Com is still there and I don’t understand if the options are only 7 days free trial or if, if I continue, have to pay for their service! There is no option not to deal with Audio Com.
What version of Audacity did you download?
I think something has changed in the last few days because even if you choose the non-Muse Hub option your browser opens a pop-up in the background to get you to sign up. You can still download the software but you have to know to close the pop-up after it finishes. It seems like a rather underhand tactic to adopt, in my view.

Pop-ups are disabled in my browser. They are just a nuisance.
They are disabled in mine too but the window I mentioned still opens in the background. You are right they are a nuisance.
You can download the latest version of Audacity without any adverts, pop-ups or unwanted additional software from either of these pages:
The first is an “official” download location. The second is unofficial, but FossHub was our official content delivery network for many years (our “trusted distribution partner”) before Muse Group took over Audacity.
Thanks Steve, that’s the kind of download site that makes me feel right at home.

3.7. Clearly Audacity has bound itself to this Audio Com.
Solution: I have downloaded an older version now (3.6). It is more than sufficient for my use.
The latest version is available without musehub or audio.com if you use the links that I posted
An audio.com account is required if you want to save to “the cloud”, but is not required if you save to your local computer.
Thank you Steve, thank you, thank you, thank you very much.
