i’m having the same issue!
i’ve tried restarting my windows laptop but that didn’t do anything.

also when trying to delete Audacity from my device, it says there’s still an Audacity file opened, even though there isn’t one open.
Because of this, i tried to find a ‘lock file’ ("Audacity is already running" error [SOLVED] - #2 by Gale_Andrews) but i couldn’t find one…

Sooo, if anyone has an idea about this issue, all help is welcome!

i managed to solve the issue i had by doing this:

1. go to Task Manager / Taakbeheer (just search for the app when pressing the windows button)
2. there was a background process of Audacity still going on, even though no Audacity tab was open! right click this process and end the process
3. i was then able to delete the folders that can be found here
   3.1. press Win + R, type “%appdata%\audacity” and delete the entire audacity folder
   (by going to the parent folder of the one you are currently in)
   3.2. go to C:\Program Files\Audacity and delete the last remaining Audacity folder
4. Then i reinstalled Audacity (Audacity ® | Download for Windows) with the 64-bit installer, not the Musehub one (read bad things about it online)

I was able to open Audacity like normal, as well as my project files!
