I have no idea why Audacity is constantly adding new advanced and obscure features that only a few users will ever use, and yet still keeps ALL users locked into the same colors for the layout, waveforms, and more. Comments:
-
Like most other modern programs, just let the user select from:
- a palette (blended color-wheel or color-table),
- OR enter an HTML color string #000000,
SO that any color is available.
-
This would allow for a true BLACK “Dark” mode to be set, instead of the grey one now.
-
This would also allow for the wave colors to be more than just those same unappealing 4.
-
AND then keep those same 4 unappealing colors from also being so much more unappealing when in dark mode (terrible).
etc etc etc. Literally the interface that EVERYONE uses could be way better by simply making the COLORS more customizable.
Thx
I know the developers are working on version 4 but I don’t know if it will be more customizable.
Personally, I don’t dare… It’s a tool… Just like I don’t care what color my screwdriver is…
so… you don’t care if any of your programs have a light or dark mode, or if they were in all hot pink or electric blue or transparent… You wouldn’t care if you can’t even see them. I doubt it. Color is important for many reasons, even if you don’t grasp them yet. Audacity is more than a “screwdriver”.
For example, “Instrument 4” being the color black, on a dark grey background in dark mode, is just poorly thought-out.
If anyone has helpful commentary, or knows how to change things in the actual code, that could work too I suppose. This seems like a rudimentary concept though.
I didn’t say YOU shouldn’t care. And I’m not saying you shouldn’t make a request. And I’m not making the decisions. Hopefully you’ll get what you want in version 4.
I can see everything fine and I’ve never changed the defaults.
“Yet?”
I’ve been using Audacity for more than a decade so I guess I’ll never grasp it.
Thank for the helpful lead.
Unfortunately that linked page looks like a big mess, with no real (current) resolution. My color preferences are not not nearly important enough to spend the time to reverse engineer that. Especially if, as I think your sub-point was also, it’s not as “rudimentary” of a concept in the actual code (shrugging)
Obviously, I’m not the only one who desires the options.
So, we all wait for version 4.
It will probably have more rocket science level tweaks, and the same crappy color scheme/selection. But we can hope!
Do you know if the devs actually ever get these feature requests from this “Feedback” forum?
