Installation Problems

System Information:
MacBook Air (13 inch, mid 2012)
Mac OS X 10.8.3 (Though the problem persisted when I had 10.8.2)

I can’t open Audacity. I click on the icon and nothing happens, and it doesn’t even show up on the force-quit menu.

I also followed the correct installation steps (move the Audacity folder to the Applications folder), with the .dmg and again with .zip files.

Tried: Re-installing the program, restarting the computer, installing different versions, doing a software update and reinstalling Audacity, Clicking on the icon, right-clicking and clicking “Open” when prompted about permissions problems.

What can I do to open it? I need a response ASAP, as this is for a project.

I’ve installed Audacity, but don’t have an “audacity.cfg” document anywhere on the computer.
I’ve tried reinstalling, but this file isn’t showing up.

There’s a suggestion that you had an older Audacity on this machine. Did you? Did you like to install whole packages of affects and plugins instead of one or two? That’s one common way to poison the well and cause Audacity launch problems.

Did you explode the Zip package on your desktop and get the ‘Audacity’ folder and then drag it into Go > Applications? That’s the most graceful way to install Audacity.

Are you installing into a local drive and not a network drive?

Just to clear the deck:
Go > Utilities > Disk Utilities > select your system drive and Verify Disk and Repair Permissions. It’s possible to scramble permissions so badly Audacity won’t run.

I don’t remember where they all are, but to reinstall, you should trash the Audacity folder in Go > Applications, and also Go > Computer > Users > koz (in my case) > Library > Application Support > drag the audacity folder to the trash.

There may be more, but those are the only ones I could find.

Then explode the Zip file and drag the Audacity folder into Go > Applications. Open the Audacity application.

What happens?

I don’t appear to have an audacity.cfg file, either.

I have deleted your duplicate topic.

Try instructions here http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Release_Notes_2.0.3#Program_Launch (where it says “VST/Audio Units Plug-ins”)

I can’t find the application folder in my Application Support folder

The Applications folder is not in Application Support, it should be in your Sidebar.

The Application Support folder is inside your user Library folder.
