Let’s say I have ACX-Check.ny sitting comfortably on my desktop. I want to install it in Audacity 3.3.3. How? I can’t make sense of the manual and the graphics don’t tell me enough. I think it’s leaving parts out or assumes I know more than I do.
I seem to be missing the step where I point to ACX-Check.ny and say “This One.”

Click on “Browse” then navigate to the desktop to select the plugin.
Then press “Open” on the file browser, (as if you were opening the Nyquist file).
That takes you back to the Nyquist plugin installer window,
where you then press “Apply” …

If the plugin is compatible, it is installed & a message is displayed …

In addition to Trebor’s answer, note that recent versions of Audacity have to be closed and restarted after installing a plug-in. On restart, Audacity will automatically enable the plug-in (before restart, the plug-in does not show up in the Plugin Manager).
I lost it before that. I was in Plugin Manager, not Nyquist Plug-in Installer
Amazing how much better that works when you’re in the right pathway.
