Insert music track in between narration of audiobook

i’m going crazy!

I’m turning a manuscript into an audiobook. The author wants music tracks embedded in between section of the narration. None of it is uniform. First song after 26s then another in 10 mins. It’s supposed to be: narration - STOP - song - STOP - narration
In other words it’s not background music, it has its own stage.

As of right now i dont even know what tool to use. So i have a couple of questions:
Do i need to split the book into sections and treat them all as seperate tracks?
Is it possible to insert a music track while the narration is stopped and continue narration at the next point after the song?
How would you go about this?

There’s more than one way to skin a cat.
This is one way: copy and paste …

[ Audacity preferences must have “Editing a clip can move other clips” enabled]

Here is another way …

With either method paste/split at a zero crossing point to avoid clicks.

Thank you so much for taking your time to answer

ACX used to refuse productions like this. Their service is for audiobooks, not radio productions, operas, or podcasts.

A while ago, they let you include introduction music at the head and then do the rest of the chapter simple voice. As far as I know, they haven’t changed their minds.

There are serious business problems with music. Are you prepared to produce all the ownership and copyright documents and certifications? They’re not optional.

This is an ACX publication about submission requirements. Note nowhere does it mention music.

This is an ACX publication about rights.

You may think your job is editing the tunes, but it’s possible your real job is figuring out how to force the music into the published book at all.
