Hiya! I have a quick question - I tend to record stuff, then clean it up afterwards, a fairly straightforward thing. The way I do it is just by selecting the end of the mis-take and drag it to its beginning. However, there tends to be be a fair amount of them, and they can also be kind of long - because I want to be precise, I need to zoom in reasonably close, but then need to drag the selection off-screen to reach the beginning. I’m wondering if there’s a way to speed up how fast the track scrolls as I’m dragging the selection, as it would be a pretty big timesaver.
Zoom out, drag to roughly the right place, then zoom in on the end and adjust the selection (“Shift + click and drag” to grab the end of the selection).
I prefer to use “Ctrl + Mousewheel” to zoom, but there are several options: https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/zooming.html
If you enable the “Full” set of keyboard shortcuts (see: https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/keyboard_preferences.html) then you can use
“Ctrl + [”
“Ctrl + ]”
to jump from one end of the selection to the other while zoomed in.
Ah, that’s too bad. I’ve tried that approach, but the amount of clicking involved kinda balances any scrolling time gains.
Another thing you could try:
- Click on the waveform at the start position.
- Drag the scrollbar at the bottom of the tracks window so that you can see where you want the end of the selection.
- “Shift + Click” on the waveform where you want the end of the selection.
or the other way round:
- Click on the waveform at the end position.
- Drag the scrollbar at the bottom of the tracks window so that you can see where you want the start of the selection.
- “Shift + Click” on the waveform where you want the start of the selection.
