The legacy Amplify UI used to automatically provide the maximum amplification factor that was possible without distortion (clipping). The user was able to change this default value.
This feature is removed in the new UI. Now the default amplification is 0 dB (no amplification at all).
Desired: The max distrortion-free amplification is a valuable feature. It should be retained.
I support this request, although for my purpose (quickly determine headroom) it doesn’t matter if I see the headroom as amplification to reach 0dB or by the seeing the peak value.
Looking at what looks like a “save” symbol, which values would be saved?
If peak was saved, this would allow the required amplification to be set for reaching the peak, for example if I want my signal to never exceed -4.5dB.
If amplification was saved, this would allow to see the resulting peak at a glance, no matter if above zero.
I understand that saving both values would result in a conflict when applied to a different selection. So what is the intended logic, by design?
